Product Context
Kream & Suger is a dating app built around a top-down 2D virtual world where users walk their avatar through a shared space to discover other users, send match requests tied to short quests, chat with matches, track standing on a leaderboard, and RSVP to real-world meetup events.
My Role
Flutter Developer.
Built Flutter UI and integrated Firebase realtime services.
The Challenge
- Rendering a real-time 2D virtual-world avatar space (character movement, nearby-user detection, in-world profile popups) as a Flutter UI instead of a typical swipe-card dating interface.
- Tying gamification (quests, leaderboard points, limited-time match-request offers) to the core matching flow without the game layer overwhelming the actual dating experience.
- Authentication state persistence.
My Approach
- Used Firebase realtime streams for messages.
- Managed auth state with Firebase Auth.
What I Built
- Built the 2D virtual-world screen: avatar movement, nearby-user markers, and in-world profile popups with quest-gated match requests.
- Built the leaderboard, limited-time offer promos, and match-celebration flow.
- Implemented chat list and conversation screens, and the real-world events list with RSVP.
Technical Decisions
Firebase streams for messages
Realtime streams gave the app instant message updates without polling.
Results & Proof
Delivered the virtual-world matching experience, chat, and event RSVP flows.
